Annulment

An annulment of a marriage invalidates the marriage as if it never occurred. Most people mistakenly believe that a marriage of short duration, such as six months or less, can be annulled without showing grounds. The law regarding annulment is not based on the duration of the marriage, but rather on very specific grounds of bigamy, incest, force, underage, lack of consummation due to physical incapacity, unsound mind, and a fraud that goes to the essence of the marriage. The procedure for the annulment of a marriage is similar to one for divorce or legal separation, with the added requirement that the grounds for annulment be proved. Ms. Callahan can help qualified persons who are seeking an annulment.
